Sara Bowen (Malama Hule'ia) and Katie Nalesere (Department of Land and Natural Resources; Division of Aquatic Resources) gave a presentation to the 7th grade Life Science classes on Niumalu's endemic birds and aquatic organisms, the characteristics and impacts of the invasive Mangrove, and their management plan for the restoration of the area.
This was in preparation for the 7th grade field trip that took place on Tuesday May 16th to Pu'ali wetland (Niumalu Beach Park) in Lihue. |

- Mangrove was brought here to help sugar cane plantations over 100 years age; it is invasive to Kauai's critical natural habitats
- A mangrove can produce over 1000 seedlings from a mature mangrove tree; they grow very quickly
